This is another translation exercise from an English source, intended
to track how the semantics might skew - along with taking note of what
causes the need for [creative license] in
instances where there is no direct translation available, but it is
approximate. There is no translation for «Deli
Dumrul» - which was the name my mother often used to address my
father with, as a term of endearment. This it was the name of a folklore
character ...but i don't know much beyond that. I pictured him like the
thug-troll who lives under a bridge, forcing people to pay money to cross
it.
The exercise was thematically linked to an exploration of
protocol at that time. The form and structure were very Türk`ic, tied to
cultural heritage, while the zany style of expression reflected an
assimilated heritage conveyed through English. I did my best to extend the
exercise here by attempting a mirror translation to keep the Türk`ic
grammatical structure intact. It's a necessary crutch that illustrates how
I need to structure my thinking in Türk`ish, given that my mind is
predominantly formed in English. It’s quite challenging, but I did my best
to make it mirror how it exists in my mind as accurately as possible. It
will require 2-3 more iterations to become sharper, but this is my attempt
to find a halfway «that'll do pig» type of
compromise.
